Where the Hell Have I Been?

Vacation and Work, that’s where.

It’s been nearly a month since I wrote anything over here. Thank God I’m not trying to monetize this thing, as I’m sure my sporadic and infrequent posting schedule violates some SEO commandments. I’ve been having a lot of fun this past month, but I’ve been feeling the desire to get some words down, and this is what you get when that happens. With that covered, let’s do a recap of recent doings in reverse chronological order:

Last Week

….was about two things; recovering from the previous week which pretty much tapped me out, and starting back at the Executive Protection (EP) gig. The recovery will make more sense when we get to the prior week, so we’ll let that simmer for a minute.

Let’s dive into the EP thing for now. I worked a blistering 5 hours last week, and made more money than I did all last semester substitute teaching. Also, it was much less stressful and way more fun. If I believed that the universe was a conscious entity that could “tell me something”, I’d say it was screaming to stick to the hired gun business and steer away from corralling young kiddos. As per usual, this could be a whole post in itself. Maybe I’ll get around to that some day.

As for the recovery, I napped almost every day last week as my body was catching up on sleep. Yay being (semi?) retired. Wait, scratch that semi part. I’m now most definitely somewhere between semi-retired and part time gig worker, and nowhere near full on retired. Read the rest of this post and let me know what ill-defined box you think I fit in.

A Couple Weeks Ago

….I worked 97 hours, and made about a third of what I did subbing. And it was an absolute fucking blast. Probably the most fulfilling experience since I worked the 2020 riots, and for sure the most fulfilling thing I’ve done since I early retired.

What the hell was I doing?

Friend of mine that I served with is still in the military and is kind of a big deal these days. He built and now runs this week long course for soldiers in leadership positions. Can’t go into specifics, as 1. it would Dox me, and more importantly 2. participation requires signing an NDA. But it involved me teaching some shooting, then using the socratic method to help these leaders get more better through increasingly difficult shit. I walked miles through a rugged forrest while carrying a ruck (people pay to do this??), never slept more than 5 hours at a time, and during the culminating event stayed up for 26 hours straight.

I fucking loved it. It was super challenging to do the socratic teaching thing while sleep deprived and under physical stress. And it was totally worth it to see the light bulb come on as the soldiers we trained figured out shit that will hopefully keep them alive. Fucking awesome. I will for sure do that again, I just wish I could do it more often!

The Week or So Before That

Not where we went.

…took the family on a beach vacation to notflorida. We’ve been to this spot three times now, and once again it was a great experience. The kids loved it, and it was great staying in a place where we could walk to everything. There was a playground a few hundred meters from our AirBnB, and we went there at least twice a day. Though this small town has a healthy tourist economy, it seems to have a much larger community centered around other economic shit. Which made us rethink our plans to move to a different part of our current city. Now we’re throwing this beach town into the mix as a possibility. We’re going to go stay there during the off season in a few months to see if it’s a viable option.

And that’s about it.

So that’s what I’ve been up too. I’ll be sure to to get back on a regular posting schedule so I can increase readership, build my marketing funnel, and eventually try to sell you all an online course on how to retire early so you can alternate working a shit load and taking naps 🙄.

Just kidding. But as fun as all that was, I am looking forward to getting more writing did. Let me know below if you’d like to hear more about any of the above, which may prompt me to pick a direction for the next post. Maybe.
